How To Follow Your Passion and Overcome Doubts
It all started making sense on a cold, morning as I was sitting in my office, staring at my computer screen, feeling completely uninspired. I had been working at the same job for over 10 years, and I was starting to feel like I was stuck in a rut. I yearned for something new and exciting, something that would challenge me and push me out of my comfort zone. That’s when I stumbled upon travel blogging.
As I read through the posts of a famous travel blogger, I felt a sense of wanderlust that I had never experienced before. The photos of exotic destinations, the stories of adventure, and the freedom that came with being a travel blogger all appealed to me. Suddenly, I knew what I wanted to do – I wanted to start over; I wanted to start travel blogging and explore new places, food and help communities and small businesses along the way.
I knew it wouldn’t be easy. My friends and family were skeptical, to say the least. They warned me that the market was saturated, that there was too much competition, and that I would never make a living from travel blogging. But I refused to let their doubts hold me back. I had always been passionate about writing, and I loved to travel and take photographs of literally everything. This was my chance to combine my passions and create something that set my soul on fire.
Since my inspiration a few months ago, I’ve spent every spare moment researching and writing. Don’t let the influencers make you think travel blogging is easy. I’ve spent countless hours learning about digital marketing, affiliate programs, and new photography techniques. It is a ton of work, but I love every minute of it.
I launched my blog just a few weeks ago. I was nervous to hit “publish”, but I’m excited to see where it takes me. There are times when I feel exhausted and discouraged. There are days when I struggle to come up with ideas for new posts, or when I receive negative feedback from family and friends. But if you know me, then you know I don’t give up. I remind myself why I started this journey in the first place – because I want to follow my passion and see the world.
I guess I’m writing this because there are so many naysayers that surround us. Maybe you’re reading this right now and feeling the same. If so, just remember you don’t have to justify yourself, your goals, or the path you are taking to anyone. If someone questions you, simply say, “This is what I choose.”
Here are some additional tips to overcome doubts and defeat the negativity:
1. Distance yourself from the negative: Put space between the naysayers and your goals. If you can’t distance yourself, have an honest conversation with them. Explain to them you don’t have to have their support, but their discouragement is not welcome.
2. Bolster yourself with support: Surround yourself with people that believe in your goals and allow you to be unapologetically you. Don’t have that person in your life? Reach out and friend me here. I will be your biggest supporter!
3. Don’t share: If you know someone will surely think you are crazy for going after your goals, don’t give them ammunition . Avoid talking about your plans around them.
4. Turn doubt into motivation: If someone doubts you, use this for motivation. Promise yourself to prove them wrong.
5. Embrace solitude and reflection: Keeping up the hustle for your dreams can be a lonely path. Give yourself time to reflect on your goals, how far you’ve come and re-evaluate your plan of action. The quiet time will also fill your cup and let new ideas form.
Remember to move beyond the negativity. Regardless of what anyone has to say, I’m so grateful that I’m taking this chance on my journey. Every day I’m learning so much about myself, about the world, and about the power of following your dreams. If you’re thinking about taking a chance on something new, I urge you to go for it. You never know what incredible things might be waiting for you on the other side. Off to my next journey. Happy travels!
